Default Please, Need Serious Help with setting Timming on SOHC 93 Civic...

So its been one thing after another while replacing the HG. I dont have the pistions @ TDC and I dont know how to set the cam timming. When I did start it, it made a noise, not valve ticking, not knock, a sort of muffled dull tick (not valve tick, but maybe). It did it when it first started. Then went away.... So I was like ok bent valve... But then I started it again and it didnt make the noise until 20 sec after the car had been started... I dunno what I have done. I cant seem to set the cam timming and I cant pull the T-Belt to get the pistion to TDC. I need HELP!!! This is my sisters car and I have to get it going ASAP! If the valves are bent, I have a head off a 91 DX that I can put on there. Will it fit? I'd assume it would since they use the same HG. I tried setting the timming with the cam gear UP pointing up and lining up the small triangle up with the has mark on the cam gear the first time.

tia for the help I need so much. I think I got in over
my head on this one...

My memory is a little fuzzy but I think there are 3 hash marks on that cam gear.
You need to line up the two has marks that are 180 degrees apart (on the cam gear) with the top of the head.

The machined surface for the valve cover gasket.

I will put a small straight edge (like a small file) on the surface of the head and line the hash mark on the cam with the straight edge. If you do it on both side of the cam gear, it will be exact.

Here's a little tip for timing belts on any type of car. If you paint your timing marks on the cam gears, crank gears and timing belt, you can transfer the timing marks from the old belt to the new belt. All you need to do is line of the timing marks (the timing marks you painted, not the the factory timing marks) and you know it's exactly where it was before you took it off.

This technique is almost a must for Honda V6's because you really can't get a good angle to line up the timing marks. Nissan factory belts come with white lines you line up on the cam/crank gears. It's damn near full-proof.

eh well I did have timming marks set on the dizzy and the cam gear, but they got cleaned off when we took the head off to see if it needed to be milled.

Thanks
