Did you let your car sit for at least a day before you tightened the valves?
Your engine need to be cold before you do valve lash. What happens is if you do it when it's warm is once you start driving metal expands under heat and it will change the clearance

Yea cuz when it's warm the metals already expanded so whatever clearance you do when it's cold it's gonna change it. I usually leave the car for at least a day before I do it

And it can't be lma's cuz you said the ticking went away after you tightened them. Lma's tick all the time but one way to find out if it's your lma's drive in VTEC and see if it still ticks. If it does it's valves if ticking goes away in VTEC then it's lma's

Maybe your just not hearing it? Especially if your cars loud but the tick gets louder as RPM goes higher

well i tried driving in vtec and it still ticks, and my lma's are good, but i am the second owner of the car and the guy said that it had over heated once before, but not for long, the fan came unplugged but do you think that could have worped the head a little bit, and over time it has just took its toll on everything?

Thanks for the help
