Default Please help me diagnose this problem *PICS**VIDS*

Well guys, the other day I was at the end of 4th gear, and instead of shifting into 5th, I accidentally hit 3rd, so my tach shot up and ever since I've had a problem. The idle would be a tiny bit rough.

We THINK my timing slipped, so we decided to readjust it today. The idle got A LOT worse than before. It gets a little bit better as the car warms up though. Also, while driving, the car bogs. There's a god-awful loss of power. I didn't even attempt to take it up high, as soon as I hit 3k-3500 it bogs horribly and I let off the throttle. At first it wasn't doing this.

If I take a ruler, all four markings on the cam gears line up and the crank was at TDC. Doesn't seem like we did anything wrong...

If we adjust the distributor timing, it fixes it a tiny bit. The distributor is now retarded all the way.

Here are some pictures of the cam gears. Sorry about the bad quality pics, my digicam ate the batteries as usual, so I had to take them with my camcorder and capture them.

Here is a video of the first startup:

((video taken down))

My question is, does this sound like a timing problem? Could it be something else?

Any, and all help is very much appreciated!

on me for hitting 3rd instead of 5th but I guess we all make mistakes sometimes

it bogs as in push down the accelerator and nothing happens this isnt timing has to be fuel problem
check fuel filter or fuel pump
aslo your oil catch can might be saturated ie overflowing into your manifold?

Yes, that kind of bog. I can't really explain it because I let off the throttle immediately. It seemed like it wasn't going anywhere though. It reminded me of detonation when I was turbo (not turbo anymore). Fuel filter is new. Funny you bring up the oil catch can. For some reason I checked my oil level today and it was dry. My car is never dry, and I never had an oil problem. Also, when I pulled the valve cover, it looked darker than normal =\

Do a compression test, tell us the results. You may have bent a valve, that would account for your power loss.

I forgot to mention the compression is good
Also, the power loss wasn't there after it happened. Only since I adjusted, or tried adjusting, the timing

perform a leak down. check the basics like cap and rotor and what not. leak down may give you a clue. also check map sensor voltage good luck

seems like a timing belt issue

Just because the cam gears line up, doesnt mean that the crank didnt slip a few teeth...

Id check that out, make sure that the crank is on TDC when you are checking your cam gears.

Thanks guys

The line on the crank lined up perfectly, so I assumed it was at TDC. I'm going to my uncles shop tomorrow so he can help me figure this out. I'm afraid to drive it there though =\

I would put the distributor back to stock first...then make sure the crank is still at tdc while the cams are lined up.

1. Did you check spark on all cylinders?
2. Did you use a timing light when you adjusted timing?
3. Are you throwing codes?

Just some things to check homie. goodluck

Thanks for the help guys...guess what it was! Ready?

My 1 week old ZEX spark plugs! WTF??!!

Sometimes the car still has a loss of power. As I'm driving (happened in 4th gear twice on the way home at around 3000 RPM) the car sounds like it's still going as fast as it should, but it's hardly moving, then all of the sudden it kicks in again. I had this problem before this incident though...who knows...maybe these plugs aren't so great either (Bosch Platinum +4's ...about a month old).

Tomorrow I'm going to get some NGK's
I could use better wires as well
