When checking clearances, do you use lube on either bearing (such as the opposite bearing that the plastigauge is on)? Or are you not supposed to use lube at all when checking clearances?

if you put the lubrication while putting on plastigage it will not give you the proper clearance specs you are looking for

Well I read a couple places that said lube up the engine side main bearings before you put the crank in, but then it said to make sure that its clean. So I wasn't sure.

Putting the crank in dry won't damage the micropolish I just got done, will it?

no it wont, just make sure that when you are doing the plastigage don't sping the crank.

do the outside cylinders first then the inner two. just be gentle with the crank and you won't damage it when it's dry and clean

 

no lube. gives bad readings
