Default Piston to Valve Contact?

I have a B16a block that has NOT been decked and a GSR head that has been decked .037" and CTR pistons with factory 3 layer head gasket. I am wandering if I can install CTR cams with out having to worry about piston to valve contact. Don't want to pull the motor apart to clay it. Thanks

the B16a has less stroke, with a shorter deckheight... the CTR pistons are made to work in that block. milling almost 1mm off the head is a risk for cam tuning, you would have to retard the cams to -2IN, -2EX to get back to 0,0. Thats alot to mill the head w/o wanting to clay the motor. The valve reliefs on the CTR pistons are pretty deep... however I would still run the cams... only really being sure to be conservative on the cam settings. -2 to +1 on intake and 0 to -2 on exhaust would be my limits... anything bigger on the cams other than CTR, maybe skunk stage 1 would work fine... I would steer clear of... anything larger than 11.5mm@ the valve!! definately use ARP head studs, a solid valve spring and the stock HG...
let us know how it turns out!!

Thanks for the reply. I'll be sure to keep that in mind. I plan to use the head studs anyway. Is there any other way to check the clearance on the motor without claying it?

You can get a depth micrometer and check that way.

FYI, I have been taught that removing material from the gasket area makes the cam see an effective advance... since the clearance is TIGHTER. It would make the motor see cam lift/valve opening/closing specs SOONER in relation to TDC if not compensated for. not the other way around. correction for removal of material is a retard on the cam gear, not an advance to maintain a 0,0 cam setting.
