Default piston to valve clearance??

Ok anyone want to take a stab at this?

I have a native B18C1 and I am working on it currently. It's head is coming back from the machine shop today. I will be running a CTR intake cam w/ ITR intake valves and a USDM 00-01 ITR exhaust cam with .5 over Endyn Valves. I have opted for the Mugen .47mm head gasket (stock is .70 I am told) and I have a set of Skunk2 cam gears. I would like to know what is the best way to determine the piston to valve clearance with the the vtec rocker arm engaged. I dont know how to engage the pin to check the lift, "clay checking?" hence I dont know how to make sure how much not to retard my exhaust cam at TDC. I am sure it all depends on the lash and the actual lift at the valve which I also do not know how to check. I will sure to be asking the builder today. I am sure he also shaved the head slightly to get a good surfacing on it. I am guessing I will be working with .23mm less for the gasket and .02mm less for the re-surfacing. I would imagine equivalvent to a spoon .45mm 2 layer gasket altogether. Since I have bent valves twice, I am not too keen on doing this again. Can anyone help me with alittle math? I am not sure I understand the best way to calculate a proper power gain vs/saftey valve scenario.

I am thinking: if I cut a deeper valve groove into the stock GSR piston, will that help? Also, if the exhaust cam was advanced it would open and close earlier @ TDC. If I build my performance tables around more midrange, would this be appropriate? I noticed that Jeff @ importbuilders likes to go +4 in, +4ex on type r cams on that LS-VTEC he tested in the Jun vs Toda vs Type R setup. I know a little bit about alittle bit, if anyone can fill in the gaps a bit for me it would be greatly appreciated.

I am sure someone has been in my shoes that
knows more than me... if so please weigh in!

Thanx...

This was discussed in an earlier thread https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=167156, it has a link that explains the whole process.
