Piston And Bore Size on a 98 CTR
Hi I have been have a few problems with my 1998 CTR burning oil, and blue smoke given from the exhaust.
I have had the Valve Stem Seals done and all the rings on the piston changed, this including the piston ring, oil ring and scrapper ring. Also the bores were de-honed/de-glazed, using the hand tool.
Firstly is the standard size of my bores 81mm on my 1998 Civic Type R (EK9)??
The car is still leaking oil, the only two things I can think of are the valve guides or that I now require oversized pistons and rings? Or does anyone have any other ideas why my car could still be leaking??
If I do get oversized pistons from Honda would this give me any more performance, less performance or no difference??

when you honed the block, did you take it to a machine shop to make sure the cylinders weren't out of round? if they are out of spec, you can burn oil. the factory bore size is 81 mm. you may have to go up to a .25 overbore or if it's bad, then an 82 mm bore, which means you'll need aftermarket pistons.
Hi, the work was done by my local Honda garage. They didn't send it away, it was done manually using a hand tool. Don't think it was measured either to make sure.
Honda say that it doesn't have to be bang on 81mm as long as it’s between a band of acceptable size stated in the Honda book.
If I do have to get it re-bored and slightly bigger will this mean I get a tiny tiny bit more performance??
Also the only other thing I thought off was Valve Guides, but Honda say this is very unlikely unless they are completely bent?
Anymore information would be helpfull, as the problem is really starting to **** me off.

This is your problem right here! Did you get it honed afterward? New rings need a fresh hone to seat properly.

No, all the work was done at the same time, the rings and the honing. Honda are going to take the block apart again today I think.
Thanks for the help so far guys, if anyone has any more information please let me know.

Just spoke to Honda there are currently looking at it. They say there seems to be Black smoke and then it goes to Blue. What are the most common causes of Black smoke, is it an injector down?
This problem is really starting to get to me. It never ends.............

Honda now feel it’s not a fuelling problem. They feel that the bores are too big. Looking at getting the Honda oversized pistons and rings. Probably .25 over.
Thanks
