Default piston bearing replacement question

ok, i have a h22a with I/H/E. while removing the oil pan so i can get a oil return line welded to it. I notice a small amount of metal. The metal is looks the same as on a motor that i spun the bearings on, but near as much. I was wondering if i can just replace the bearings if there is no damage to the crank its self. I want to do this a preventive maintenance so i don't screw up the crank or the block. can this be done?
