Pic request: worn synchros & gears
Does anyone have pics or a link to pics of worn synchros and gears?
I need to replace my 5th gear synchro, but I have an extra GSR tranny lying around with a cracked case. I want to know if the synchros in that one are still decent, maybe I can use them in the current one.

Here's a picture of a good one:

It's got some assembly lube on it in that pic. The Helms will give you more details about checking for wear. Please tell me you are not attempting this without a Helms!

Thanks man.
What I'm planning on doing is taking my tranny to a shop or have someone w/ experience do it, using the synchros from my other tranny (if they are still good)
How can you tell it's worn??

When it's worn, the teeth on the brass portion will not be nice and "pointy". They will either be rounded off or in some cases they will be missing. That's when you start having grinding problems.
I am not sure about the GS-R tranny, but on this tranny, you don't even have to split the cases apart to get 5th gear on and off. There's a little cover on the end of the tranny that comes off. 5th gear is right there on the end of the shaft. Nice and easy.
