Phantom Grip...
Alright guys my build is getting really damn close to being done. Unfortunately I recently caught my wife screwing around so now I've found myself smack dab in the middle of a divorce and raising a child by my damn self. Needless to say money is incredibly tight now because divorces are expensive and they are expensive because they are WORTH it! My question is this, I know the Phantom Slips cannot compare to an actual LSD like a quaffe but I simply do not have the money to get one of those or the OBX version either. I have managed to find a Phantom Slip for a relatively low price of $100 bucks. Would it be better than nothing until I can get the money together to buy a good one or should I just say the hell with it and weld the spider gears or get a spool?

Don't bother with it. Keep the money as you are going to need it. Raising a kid by yourself sucks. Sucks even worse when you are broke or money is tiiiite.

Yeah I got that covered for the time being but that is the reason I am trying to finish this project.

Yeah I think thats what I'll do and it actually seems like I might be coming into enough money to get an OBX diff so I'm pretty excited about that. Something that amazes me about these Phantom Grips is that even the worst product has a few people that like them. Yet the Phantom Grip has ZERO support. I guess they truly are garbage.

Picture two small metal plates with springs between them, bolted together around the spider gears in an open differential to lock them together. Now imagine putting any amount of substantial power through that assembly...
I believe most Phantom Grips for Hondas retail somewhere around $300. For that price, you could almost get an OBX LSD, which people have had good experiences with(after tearing them down and verifying torque spec on all the fasteners).

It's recommended to tear it down, clean it, and reassemble torquing all fasteners to spec. Some also recommend "rebuilding" it with better washers/hardware.
