painting black moldings
I want to paint the black moldings on my car that run along the doors, the black side mirrors, the door handle, and on the back where the license plate is. How should i go about this? 1999 civic dx 2dr
can they be taking off with out taking the door apart, because there is one bolt that you can get at when you open the door but is there any others that i wont be able to get at unless i take the door apart?
I have seen paint stick to moldings very very well.
You just have to make sure you get a good shop to do it. You need to add some flex agent to the paint so it doesnt become so brittle, and that is what most shops forget.

If you have a white civic. Rock the Panda Style. I thought about painting my moldings but whats the point? They will probably get messed up anyway by people who dont care about other peoples cars and bang on it. If you seriously wanna do it then get it profesionally done.

hey, i have a 97 civic dx coupe in red, and i hate my mouldings too, they bother me every time i look at my car. So far i have painted the liscense plate box, the mirrors, and the handles. (still yet to do the trim). I went to a paint shop and had my color #mixed, and bought a pint of it for 80bucks(ouch!),,, and then my dad used a touch up gun to spray them, and its been on for months and has been holding up really well. Its worth it, and the long thin moulding your talking about is clipped in and i think the door panel has to come off to get to the clips.. Or maybe you can steal the pieces off an ex if you find a silver ex at a junkyard, ya never know........
Has anyone just tried the spraypaint ones? I dont think it would be worth the money to get the gun. All I want to paint is the license plate thingy. How much do you people think it would cost to get it painted at a body shop or should I just do it myself?
I believe there is a way to re-black the molding with some type of dye that is made for that purpose. A lady I know who is a professional detailer told me about it a loooong time ago, and it stuck in my mind for some reason.. I'll try to find more info for you...
OK I found it. It's called Forever Black, and it's a trim dye. If you use any type of silicone-based dressings on the moldings, it won't work and will bead up. Anyway, it supposedly works pretty well, and sounds like it's worth a shot. I don't know where to get it though, except through my detailing friend. Do Google search, etc...
