Default p72 hondata

ok, maybe i'm missing something here...but a friend of mine is going w/ a hondata s200 system on his 98 type-r and as we all know(or most) you have to use a obd-1 ecu, he aquired a p72 from a friend, who was using it in his 98 gsr(straight up no hondata)... with no conv. harness, he said it was an obd-1, correct me if i'm wrong(which i hope i am) you have to use a conversion harness to run the ecu...both my friend and the guy w/ the gsr are just plugging it straight into the stock wiring harness ....what the hell is up w/ this?? it worked in the gsr...how can i tell if it is in fact an obd-1 ecu...2 sockets instead of 3?? serial numbers?...it says p72 in part of the label...

The only OBD! P72 ECU should be marked as P72A1 and was used only on 94/95 GSR's. The ECU's for 96 and newer are OBD2. The OBD2 ECU's were also tagged as P72, but were not "A1" versions. Ask the dealer to confirm it.

The reason I know is that I'm putting together a 95 B18C (for a swap) and will have to go through the Referee.

Wes.

Yeah, It could be internally converted, and if it is plugging into OBD2 cars, that is a telltale sign.

Just have to be careful between OBD1 and OBD2. But I think the plugs are keyed so you don't have to worry about mis-matching them.

DOH! I meant to say OBD2A and OBD2B, not OBD1 and OBD2!
