mild degreaser soap and water and then dry with compressed air and immediatley oil everything ....dont use any heavy solvents that may damage the valve seals

I would clean it up in a parts washer and then replace the valve seals..

parts washer is a good idea but im guessing he doesnt have one...parts solvent will eat up the valve seals but they are only about 20$

Thats what im saying, replace the valve seals anyway.. Much better to have a very clean head since the valve seals are so cheap anyway..

Acually I have used the carberator parts cleaner before in a metal container to clean a head before.. That stuff work 1000 times better than parts washer fluid..
