you can technically run a P72 program on a P61 ecu, but the secondary butterflies will be inactive beacuse the motherboard on a P72 ecu is different than a P61 ecu, yet the programming is compatible between each ecu, its just that the P61 lacks the onboard hardware a P72 has -- and no, you cant add the P72 hardware to the P61 ecu.

Is the P72 ecu reprogrammed?

can you further explain the onboard hardware please, in dumb-terms? lol. and sorry if i didnt make it clear. i have a P61 ecu and a friend of mines has a chip for a P72 ecu. want to know if i can use it. any drawbacks with the secondary butterflies not working? will it affect anything else? thanks

The P72 ecu has parts on it that allow it to operate the GSR's 2ndary butterflies, whereas the P61 ecu does NOT have these same parts to operate the 2ndary's at all. And you cannot take the parts off of a P72 ecu and add them to a P61 ecu to make the 2ndary's work because the P72 uses a completely different hardware than the P61 ecu altogether. The only thing that's compatible between the 2 ecu's is the programming (software).

Does that make better lamer sense?

Katman.... how about vice-versa? Can a Chip for a P61 be put in a USDM P72?
(the secondaries do not matter since it is a B16 head)

Thanks in advance!

yes vice-versa will work and the 2ndary b-flies will be inoperable.

It's not difficult to add IAB functionality to a P61, if needed.

Yup. PG7 is 86-87 pre-OBD0 or 88-89 OBD0 Integra unit.
