P61 vs Chipped P28 w/ B16A3
alright, i just bought a P61 to try with my b16a3. now i know its not going to have ideal fuel curves for a mostly stock B16 but it will certainly have better fuel curves compared to the P28 i was running. the only thing is the Check Engine Light came on briefly while i was coming home so i thought i'd check the code..well i turned the car off, then back on (i reset the ecu after putting it in intially) and the Check Engine light didn't come back on. Now, the CEL came on when i was at or around 7500rpm so i was well into VTEC, so i proceeded to drive around and hit VTEC several times...taking the car to just below redline and the CEL didn't come back on.
Now, its a P61 from a 1992 GSR. I have an OBD1 92 DX Civic Hatchback and there weren't any check engine lights with the P28. So i know its not my wiring...and must be the ecu? Some suggestions or any help or previous experience with this from any honda-tech member would be greatly appreciated.
thanks, chet.

i know my knock sensor is wired properly, because i was running a p30 prior to the skunk2 p28 and it didn't throw any codes.
and i would check the codes if the CEL would stay on. (i've done 6 swaps...can do basically everything myself) but wiring issues tend to give me trouble, especially when it would seem like this ecu should work fine...
i'm just wondering if there is something i'm failing to consider...like a p61 throws a code in an EG chassis or something like that.
thanks again for your help.

Sometimes the ECU will throw random codes if "it's just going bad." The Helms doesn't really offer an explanation beyond substituting a known-good ECU and seeing if it throws any codes.
Ideally I would try to find an OBD1 P30 from a '94-'95 del Sol VTEC that you know is good to substitute in place of the P61 and see if it throws any codes.

i am having trouble finding a p30...hence the reason i'm running a p61.
i know of another p61 in this area that i will try...just to see if its something besides the ecu.
i drove around later today after resetting the ecu and it didn't throw any codes...

isn't the b17a just a stroked b16a...with basically the same head and slightly different cams?
