Default P28 hondata vtec?

Hey I currently have a 98 civic hatch with a b18c1 block and a b16 head that was being ran by an auto p28 converted to manual. Also had a chip for nos but since then I took the nos out and the ecu gave out on me it had a burn mark on the back. I’m assuming it was from the previous owner making a hack job tucked harness or the Manual conversion or maybe it’s just it’s time.
but I do plan on turboing the motor so I ordered a hondata and since I already had a p28 I figured I’d just order another one. But after some research it seems like p28 ecus are for dohc
my question is basically can I use a p28 as long as I have it chipped and will my vtec still work?

The P28 ECU is actually for the '92-95 Civic EX/Si... D16Z6 SOHC VTEC engine. This is a very common ECU foundation to use with Hondata so that it can run any SOHC or DOHC engine regardless of being VTEC or not... as long as the chipped basemap or base calibration is for the engine type that you have. For example, a GSR chipped P28 should run the engine OK.

Yes, VTEC should still work... assuming that the calibration is accurate and the engine is healthy.
