Oxygen sensor questions
What does a wideband oxygen sensor do for a car? I know that it will detect other gases in the exhaust besides nox and o2. But how does it make use of that information? If I got a wideband O2 sensor for my 93 civic Si will my stock ecu be able to make use of the information it provides?
I'm guessing on some of this, but one things for sure... Your ECU won't use any extra information, even if the wide band sensor provided it. Are you sure it senses other gasses? I would think wide band would refer to it's response characteristics to O2 in the exhaust only, and not mean it reads other gasses.
A true wide band O2 can ACCURATELY measure a wide range of a/f ratios, while the general 1 & 4 wire O2's are more like switches (that switch from lean - rich at about 14.7:1).
Can your car use this input - NO. The ECU (from an HX) actually has control of the sensor....where as the 1 & 4 wire variety just output a voltage (the other 2 wires are for the heater section of the sensor).
