OT: Welding equipment...
Sorry if this is in the wrong area, but didn't know where to put it.... I'm looking to buy a mig welding setup, and was wondering what brands/setups any of you guys own or have experience with. It will be used primarily for exhaust systems and light bodywork. I'd really like to keep the cost under $800, but if I can't get good quality for that much, i'll spend what I have to. Thanks in advance.
you can get a good mig welder for 800. Take a look at lincoln and miller welders. Go with one of those and you can't go wrong. I got a lincoln 170 amp mig for only 450 used and that was with a stand.
I have a lincoln electric SP-135T. It cost me about $500, and works just fine. Of course, I have nothing else to compare it with...and sometimes I do get frustrated with it, but I just attribute that to my poor welding skills.
I have a Lincoln Weld Pak 100 wire feed, bought from Home Depot for about $350. I have used that to weld exhaust stuff and it works good. You just have to turn it down almost as low as it can go. I recently bought the mig conversions kit for $100 from same place. I havent hooked it up yet, but it should make my Weld Pak even better.
