Oil pump install question...really need advice please!
Guys! When you install a new oil pump, you shouldn't have to take it apart to put petroleum jelly into pump cavity to lube it do you? I know you do it when you're overhauling the pump but I got a brand new one when I was rebuilding a motor I bought. The problem I'm having now is that my gauge is showing that I'm not holding enough pressure at idle and at 3000 rpm. At idle it falls below 10 psi and at 3k rpm it's around 45 psi.
It's on a B16A2 with a Greddy turbo kit, Je pistons, Eagle rods and GSR cams. The motor supposedly had under 15k on it since it was rebuilt when I bought from the guy and I'm having trouble holding oil pressure. The oil light does come on when I start the car but it only stays on for 2 sec. and only does that on cold starts. VTEC still activates when I hit 5500 rpms. but it does burn a lot of oil with this new motor. I have to add about 2 qt. almost every 2 weeks. The stock motor never did that even after I cracked the #3 piston ring so it's really weird.
I checked the plugs and there is no oil on it. It doesn't blow out whit smoke, and I recently checked the oil pan for metal and there is none. Do you guys think it can be the oil pump? I oiled the oil seal before I installed so all I can think now is that the gauge must be bad or something. Here's how everything is t'd up on the back. Oil pressure sending unit is first, then the oil line to the turbo, and then the oil pressure gauge. It's alos a mechanical one too, so should I install the gauge closer to the block? Or is it something elso that's making it read low. PLease help me cause i'm stumped and I don't really want to do another rebuild. any info would be great and sorry it's so long.

No, it actually could clog the little tiny holes up. If your rebuilding an engine your suppose to prime the engine first before starting it up first.
