Default Oil Pressure Sending Unit

Ok, my oil light has been on in the cluster for a day now. I have checked everything like the pump, the level, the headgasket, the pan for dents. I took off the vavle cover and the head is getting enough oil and oil is coming up through the ports. Today I started the car and unplugged the oil sending unit....NO OIL LIGHT came on when i unplugged the unit....bad unit??? can someone plesae tell me?? thanks
