Default Oil Pressure Issue!

I dont think This is a normal Oil Pressure issue so please read it a little before flaming and telling me to search first because I haven't been able to find someone that has a problem just like mine.

I recently rebuilt the motor in my BA8 Prelude. F22A1. I bought new Bearings all around. Had the Crank Micro-polished. Had the head from a different motor hot tanked and milled just enough to get the knick out of the surface.. Every seal was replaced.

In all honestly I'm not claiming to know everything or anything at all. I went exactly my the service manual to assure everything was done correctly to my understanding.

After rebuild. OIL PRESSURE: Upon start-up, the oil pressure is steady at 50-60 PSI. No odd noises, sounds really strong and very healthy.

As the engine warms up, the oil pressure guage I have tells me that the oil pressure slowly decreases at idle but upon tap of throttle, oil pressure rises to 20-30 PSI. After seeing it at 0 or near zero upon warmed idle, I immediately shut it off because I dont want to be shredding my motor up from the inside out.

Because Of this though, I havent been able to properly break the motor in yet.

The guage I bought was extremely Cheap though so I dont know if it has anything to do with it or not.

Are there any ideas of technical matter that you can think of that I might have dont wrong?? or anything else that could be wrong. please just shoot out some ideas as I'm not that intelligent about it all.

Is your stock oil pressure warning sender in place? Is it turning your oil pressure light on when your guage is reading 0?

Is your gauge mechanical or electrical.

Have you tried repleaceing your guage or sending unit?

Yes the stock oil pressure warning sender is in place and should be functioning. Light has not come on as of anytime i've ran the motor. GOOD POINT.

The guage is electrical which also makes me doubt the accuracy of the guage.

No I haven't tried replacing it as of yet because I'm dirt poor. lol But thanks man for all those thoughts.

the stock dummy light only works under 3.some psi.
try hooking up a mechanical gauge. $10 at the autoparts store

oil dummy light comes on a 6psi, oil pressure on a stock motor should be 10psi at warm up and at 3000 rpms you should see 50psi or more..

Awesome! Well you guys helped me out for sure.. I took it out and drove it last night because it was nice and cold. The car did GREAT!! The bad thing was my hood wasn't latche all the way from the last time I checked to see if my oil level was up enough.. Hood came up at seventy on the interstate and collapsed the roof of the car getting smashed by a Semi Later on down the road.. I think the Hood Dampers Prevented the window from getting Smashed in.. We went to backt o pick up the hood and the inner Skelton had completely seperated from the skin and both were crumple into little scraps!! Pictures are on my Myspace..

But the car was doing great!! So thanks for the advice, time to start tuning!
