Oil loss question.....::compression test results::........
Hey guys,
here is the history:
car stolen in Dec. Retrieved in Jan and fixed at a shop. After i got it back i didn't think anything of the engine since the only things they stole were the intake and roll bar from the engine bay. I traveled a lot 30 minutes for ski practice (ski racing team) and that was about 30 minutes one way about 3 times a week and also a couple longer drives to Summit Point and VIR for some events. On my way to VIR i noticed my vtec not-engaging. I knew that it must have been the solenoid or the oil pressure, then my oil light comes on....expletive. Went to check the oil and i didn't get a reading, and i didn't get one until i added 2.5 quarts of oil. I was shocked. I wanted to run a compression test, but i didn't have the funds to buy a tester (yes i was very poor).
I keep checking the oil level and fill up when i needed to. After about 1 week after i filled it up it no longer burned oil. There wasn't a leak, i checked frequently. Most of my driving was short distance and wasn't on the highway during this time period. Then i decided to take a long trip after i graduated from college and drive out to California and see the country. I use some oil on the trip. I checked it frequently and i brought extra just incase.
After being home for about 2 weeks i decided to run a compression test. Here are the results (1 test == 4 turns, 2 test == 10 turns):
1 - 215, 220
2 - 210, 220
3 - 160, 190
4 - 225, 230
What do you guys think of the numbers? It seems that the 3rd cylinder is a little lower than normal, but not by that much? where is my oil going? I would think with as much oil as i lost that the compression numbers for atleast one of the cylinders would be lower. Valve stem seals? any ideas would be helpful.
Cliff notes: losing some oil, compression is decent, usually only happens on the highway (constant 3-5k rpms for longer periods of time).
Stats:
144,388 miles on the motor
have been using Mobile 1 since about 30k on the motor
tracked once, auto-xed about 7 times, driven mild to hard
