Oil filter info
I normally hate the speculation that people contrive about which oil filter is the best for their vehicles, especially since I work as a counter guy at a dealership.
I don't know why people prefer the 15400-PLM-A02 filters (the small ones) other than the fact they are eaiser to grab and remove on the newer cars....they have less capacity and are made by the same USA company as the bigger filters, FILTECH. Also, it seems like the springs in them are weaker than on the older filters. Thus, the bypass in the seems like it would open up sooner allowing more contaminants into the engine should a pressure increase occur within the filter itself. This paragraph in itself should also be considered speculation, as I have no proof of the prior comments, just as performance advantages to Hamp or PLM filters has also not been proven.
Most of you PLM believers will be happy to know that Honda has superceeded all oil filters of the PR3/P0H/PT7 family to the smaller PLM filter. I imagine this was done in an effort to charge customers the same amount of money, yet reduce production costs, since the PLM seems a lot cheaper to me. Also, the flow holes on the base of it are a lot smaller than on other Honda filters. I think this filter was designed for use with lighter 5/20 oil that Honda recommends in all their new cars.
A few others who do not believe in the PLM will be happy to know that Honda released a 15400-PCX-004 oil filter SPECIFICALLY for the S2000 due to the fact that it is a more performance oriented filter. It allows higher pressure without bypassing filtering elements, it is made in Japan by Toyo Roki, and it has the same capacity as the PR3/P0HPT7 filters. It would appear that anyone who specifies a PLM or HAMP filter is simply uninformed.
The filter of choice in the USA is the 15400-PCX-004.

I guess parts guys from the east AND west have nothing better to do then look and compare oil filters
haha.. j/k. either way to me it doesn't really matter. As long as it fits and works. Maybe someone should dyno them.

Well, I don't compare oil filters for a living.....but we did get a parts bulliten on it.
And a dyno is going to prove absolutely nothing on an oil filter's performance.
