Default Oil Cooling

I am concidering putting an oil cooler on my turbocharged b18c. I have searched the archive but I can't find an answer to one question, whether to use a sandwitch type oil filter adapter or relocate the oil filter all together?

What do you experts think.

Thanks

I don't really have a problem with the sandwhich adpater. I just did put together my oil cooler on my hybrid.

I'm very pleased with the results. Cruising my car used to sit around th 190 mark water temp wise and would rise as high as 210 in traffic. Now it sits between 170~180 cruising doesn't get above 195 in traffic. Though I didn't have much room I mounted my oil cooler up front, oppisite the cooling fan. I cut (2) 1.5"X8" holes in my bumper. One hole on either side of the license plate bolt holes. This gave me a free flow to the oil cooler, and more flow to the section of radiator in front of the turbo.

My setup ran about $125, would have been less but the place only had an expensive billet sandwhich adapter. Sorry for all the extra info, just thought I'd share.

http://www.racerpartswholesale.com

Thats where I ordered my cooler and sandwhich adapter from. They were out of regular kind and all they had were the billet kind. I think the billet is made by Canton.

Cheers

I researched this a ton (search) >> kits-wsie:

The b&m is cheap and does an okay job (close to $110).

or there are the usual greddy and others around $400.

Then I stumbled upon the Jackson Racing one. Looks about the best bang for the buck.

I've read a few people state that there are flow losses in the sandwich plate adapters.

I have also noted that (depending on the adapter) there is precious little room between the firewall and filter after installation.

On the other side of the coin, I have read the same space-related complaint about installing AN lines out of the block for a filter relocation kit.

All of this space-related concearn probably was influenced by the chassis and engines involved too. It seems there is plenty of room between my B18B and the firewall for either option.

Your call.

Yeah, I had questions about flow losses as well. I do want to keep the oil cool, but I don't want to lower the flow rate to lube my engine. Is the oil filter the best place to tap a line for the oil cooler? I'm not too familiar with the oil flow in the engine. Does the oil go from the discharge of the pump, through the filter, then to the engine?

Just grab the Trust Oil Moval Kit
wont cost you much, it comes with the oil cooler adaptor along with sensors for oil temp and oil pressure...
And the best thing is... your oil filter can be placed somewhere else.
And to be change every 1000kms or what so ever, as most usually get jamed around 3,000kms. By doing so, you can run your engine oil longer.
For those who uses high grade engine oil, this is great. Saves a lot of money on a longer run.
