Default Oil consumption

Ive been looking into getting a honda but generally they all seem to use quiet alot of oil, especially when there on vtec. Whats the cause of this? Is it valve stem oil seals, piston ring or .......?

Also if I bought one (b16 or b18) I wouldnt mind doin a fresh rebuild, is there anything yous would would uprate or modify while its split down?

Cheers

A properly running motor doesn't lose enough oil between changes to notice. None of mine do. If you're building one yourself then make sure to do it right and your oil should be fine. Reusing old gaskets & seals and not cleaning the mating surfaces properly cause about 90% of overall oil consumption in our cars.

ok thanks very much, i dont think id ever build a engine without new gaskets unless i was really stuck and needed the car. Done abit of a search and people were saying its generally valve stem oil seals.
