Plug the intake manifold hose.

Valve cover to can.
PCV valve to can.

That's my setup, I need to empty my can every 3-6 months.

How is the crankcase getting any ventilation? Or vaccum to open up the PCV valve?

It is supposed to go between the PCV valve and the intake manifold.

I'd take that as a sign your engine is in good shape. Think about it. Do you want blowby?

Oops. I just reread your original post. LOL

How does a catch can help? Is it just stopping stuff from going back into the engine through the intake?

Connect a fuel line hose from the PCV to the catchcan, then from the can to the IM... Since it only accumulates oil vapor, it doesn't collect much oil liquid very fast. Also depends on your oil, how you drive...... drag, road racing...
