Oil Analysis Results with some questions. Pics inside
Hey guys I recently sent out oil to Blackstone Laboratories for analysis. Here are the results.
Car: 1999 Honda Civic Si
Miles on Car: 97,891
Mods: Intake, Exhaust
Oil: Mobil 1 5w30 Fully Synthetic
Oil Duration: 4,161 Miles and about 4 months
Oil Filter: OEM Honda
Picture of what Oil I used exactly for reference:
Here are the sheets of data:
Virgin Mobil 1 5w30 fully synthetic
Used Mobil 1 5w30 fully synthetic
Now heres my questions.
They did recommend I go 5,000 miles before the next change although the TBN read 2.9 which is still pretty low.
I guess I am happy with the results but should i consider switching to the new Mobil 1 5w30 Fully Synthetic that guarantees 7500 or 15,000 miles? Would it be worth a couple of more dollars to get the "extended performance" mobil 1 and go to about 7,000+ miles? It seems what i have is working fine now (about 5,000 miles in 6 months). I feel if i get longer milage oil it will take so much time that i wont be able to drive the distance in the time they allot. (i dont do that much driving, 10-12k a year). How important is time in the life of an oil. Is it really going to go bad after 3,6, or 9 months? Should I stick with what I have or go for the longer life oil?
I am just looking to get the most out of my oil since its so expensive. Thanks

TBN stands for Total Base Number. Pretty much measures the active additive left in the oil.

Great thread. Evidence instead of opinions.
