Default Are odb2 ecus same plugs as odb1 plugs?

Is an obd2 ecu suppose to plug into a obd1 harness? or are they different plugs? Because I'm not sure what ecu I have but I remember using one of my friends ecu which was odb1 and it plugged right in and started up and everything.

SORRY ABOUT THE TITLE I KNOW IT SAYS "ODB", thats a typo, i just went to a concert with wu tang thats why

if you have an obd 2 car and obd 1 ecu, why not get the conversion harness?
that would allow you to run the obd 1 ecu on your obd 2 car
