Default Octane vs. Emissions

I just took my car to the refferee and passed both the visual and emissions test, i failed the functional due to my check light comming on because of my knock sensor at the end of the test. My question is "does octane effect emmissions?" I was just thinking of throwing a bottle of octane booster in my tank so i could take the test and wouldnt have to worry about the engine pinging. timing is already low at 15 TDC.

Lower octan is actually better for smog because it buns better, and faster, this is what I was told by the smog guy.

lower octane levels also causes detonation and the knock sensor to ping which is his problem. But generally, higher octane gas does lower emissions since it burns cleaner.

higher octane gasoline burns slower not cleaner, the burn rate (or resistance to) is what deters detonation, and I doubt the smog guy is even gonna smog the car is he hears pinging. The quality (or cleanliness ) of the burn is dictated by how homogenous the mixture is.

thanks for clarifying. After reading your post, I don't know what the hell I was thinking when I posted mine.

man if your car is pinging at 3000 rpm you have other things to worrry about instead of smog.
