Default OBDIIa - OBD1 Conversion without harness...?

Hey all, i'm beginning to tune my friend's 98 teg. He doesn't want to but a conversion harness though. I've never tuned/converted an obdII before, and from the looks of it, the harness doesn't look that difficult to solder. I've searched a few places, i can't seem to find a diagram of what to solder to what wires...I know it's a lot of work, but he doesn't care, nor do I...

What does your friend have against conversion harnesses? They aren't very expensive, and they make returning to stock extremely easy if ever required.

I have done what you are about to do and if I did it all over again I would have used a conversion harness. Although it worked fine when I did it there is a good chance that you or anyone else for that matter could mix up one or two wires which in turn could easily fry your new obd1 computer. not worth it in my eyes.

heh, i'm gonna tap off the old harness so if anything happened, ican just pull it off, and plug in the new one. he doesnt have anything against conversion harnesses, he's just on a budget

ya i've seen it cost 60 bucks online...and that's 60 bucks he's gotta add to the whole project. would you spend 60 when you know you can get it for free?? i'm the one doing the soldering,. i dont mind. i'm bored anyways.

I'm the same way, I'm gonna do my own harness, but leave it plug and play, good choice

lol, yeap, there's only 40 or so wires...NOT that many, it'd take like 20 mins at max to do them all...20 mins for a 60 dollar job? ****, i'd love to get paid 180 bucks/hr... for soldering, but there are people out there with already made harnesses, so i'm too late.
