Default Obd 1 vs. Obd 2....

I would like to know the differences between them please. i pretty sre that the obd 1 is what was in GS-Rs prior to 95, and i think it allows the motor to put out more power, and it doesnt have an o2 sensor. but i am not sure about whether any of that is true, and then how the obd 2 dffers from it. please fill me in, thanks!

ok first off both obd systems have o2 sensors. the obd2 design is created to allow the ecu to see the functions of the emissions components. that is what the obd2 is designed to do. the obd2 system is has 2 o2 sensors to identify if the catalytic converter is working properly. obd2 also has readiness tests. these are self initiated tests that the ecu performs under specific driving conditions. there is a test for the fuel evap system, misfire, o2 sensor, egr (if equipped), etc. obd 1 does not have these self tests and can't identify if emission components are working properly. that is the major difference between the two systems

so then the obd1 would allow mods that may increase emmisions to work better de to the lack of its detecting technology?

As mentioned there are no major differences between the two. Apart from a few additional sensors the OBD2 is harder to tune for mods. Lots of guys here are basically using OBD1 ECU's and chipping them to allow for mods. The OBD2 is too expensive and is harder to work with which is why we go the OBD1. You will find that the OBD1 is easy to use, can be modified easily and works perfectly with OBD2 engines once modded.

Hope that helps.
