Default OBD-0 B16 Distributor with OBD-1 ECU

Okay, so I have a bit of a noob question, I work in a shop that mainly specializes in EF/ED/DA chassis. I currently am working on swapping an LS-Vtec with a b16a head into my ED9. Im pretty strapped for money and im mainly just trying to get on the road right now, therefore im dipping into the spares bin for as many parts as I can so as not to spend money I don't have All I have is an OBD-0 B16 distributor, but my partner at the shop said that the OBD-0 distributors "don't play nice" with OBD-1 systems. I know theres conversion pig-tails and theyre fairly easy to tie into an OBD-1 system, but I want something that is going to work properly. Is my partner correct? I trust him as he has a lot of experience (I, not so much) but im just trying to make sure, as that's really the only holdup there is for my swap. Thanks!

Your partner is correct. You need a obd1 or 2 to be compatible.
