notching syncros????
Anyone heard of this or tried it?
ive heard that if you notch out every other tooth on the syncro it will help with power/full throttle shifts.
thinking about trying it out for ***** and giggles but was checking to see if anyone has tried this??

my buddy di this to his 600hp taln ..but there is no point in doing thr syncro its slef as the teeth on the syncro dont relly do a lot of the grabing ..there just there to guide the sleeve over the hub.
to do this properly you would have to grind down every other tooth on the hub AND syncro as well as the hub to ...it just makes the next gear grab much easier ..there is no room for error though and expect a grin every shift ...and no more baby shifting ...
every shift must be fast for things to mesh up

While this works for old V8 trannys like Muncie and Top Loaders, they use full floating synchros, aka the are free to spin.
Honda doesn't, the synchro only move approx. 1/2 tooth either way, that all.
You could TRY removing every other engagement tooth off the gear itself, but why?
Scuff the gear face where the synchro "grabs" the gear, like GearSpeed shows to do. At first the tranny will be a little notchy, but in 300 miles it will be like butter!!!!!
1-2-3-4 powershifts, not even a hint of grindage.
Sadly, my tranny I did that too, only lasted 3 days. The Kaaz LSD either spit out a axle or exploded.

so you scuff the cone on the gear. does this work with the factory brass rings too? or are you using the carbon coated ones? i completely understand the reason with the carbon ones.

I did it using the stock synchros. I had to replace 2-3-4 due to 5 years of HARD driving, so while I was in there, tried what GearSpeed had suggested. On one cone the was brass build-up, but it comes right off with a 120 grit flapper wheel.........
takes about 90 seconds per cone, I don't bother with 5th. Tearing apart and putting the shafts back together is the hardest part.
