Default Is this normal ?

Let me start off by saying I am probably just pairnoid, ok my question is. I start my car and my oil light lites up for about 2 second then shuts off. Someone told me its suppose to shut off right away, if not my oil pressure could be low. Just curious about what you guys think.

No it's not normal. It should shut off right away. What's your oil level at?

Are you checking your oil when the car is warmed up or cold?
Warm should be your answer.

I check the oil when the car has been sitting for a while, so yes that would mean cold. Last time I checked the oil leval was right at the top dot. The light comes on then shuts off, I think I am just pairnoid.

i might try and flush the engine out, too. just drain it, put in 3.5 to 4 quarts of auto tranny fluid ( dextron III with mercon) start it and let run for like 10-15 min, drive it around if you want to, revving it up good, then drain it and change the filter. refill with some 10-30 pennzoil or valvoline (maybe valvoline maxlife) and you should have much better oil pressure. btw- atf is just really thin motor oil with a lot of cleaning additives in it. this wont hurt anything.

if it shuts off right away, then its normal. i would never run auto tranny fluid in my engine....its just not thick enough.

You're supposed to check oil when the car is cold =\

If you check it when the car is cold all of the oil will be in the oil pan and you won't get an accurate reading. YOu need to check when the car is hot, like when you are at a gas station filling up or something......not immediatly after you shut the engine off but no more than 5 minutes.

i've learned from everyone that you check engine oil when its cold, and transmission fluid when warm. all the techs at honda tell me this too.
