Default Noise in gear at consistent speed.

There's a consistent thumping noise coming from what seems like driver-side front of the car while cruising at a steady speed with the throttle hardly open. I took it today to have the whole suspension looked at, including cv axle and wheel, and everything checked out fine. The motor hasn't run low on oil at all and seems sturdy as can be. The noise however goes away when the tranny is out of gear. It's not a metallic sound or grinding noise. Like a soft knocking or thumping... maybe like 3 times a second. Oh and the noise goes away when I accel/decel. Any ideas at all?

Noise vary with speed? or pretty much stay @ ~3 times a second? Feel it in the steering wheel? How about the Shift ****?

Actually it does go quicker if I'm at a higher speed such as 60 or 80 compared to 40. I might feel it in the steering wheel... maybe it's in my head though?

If the noise goes away if accelerating or decel.. then it is would seem to be related to the motor/tranny torquing around causing something to touch / hang loose.

Is it possible that when you accel/decel that it's just the noise of the motor (intake, exhaust) masking the thumping?

If it varies with speed then you know it's most likely connected to the drivetrain/brakes/wheels OR the wind is moving something like fenderwell liners.

The noise stopping when in neutral would either play in the 'torque' idea or something internal to the trans is slightly damaged; While in neutral the problem part is not touching but in gear it is (shift fork being hit with something)

Need to take another look under the car to try to narrow the problem down.

Yea it's possible you can't hear it as much because of the motor. However, it does lessen, BUT I'm noticing that it is still able to be heard. The faster I go, the faster the will be. The noise though is only really able to be heard when I'm slightly on the throttle. I can control it's loudness by the throttle basically. Suspension seems fine. I'm still thinking though it might be the cv axle.

Shop #2 has looked at it and said nothing's wrong and to just drive it. This noise is so annoying though, I need to fix it...

Maybe I'll video tape it so you can hear it.
