No Vtec Sound???
Well I searched around the forums and found nothing on this so let me post it here! Well I was driving my h accord last night and it was running great goin into vtec and pulling hard! I met my g/f after work and headed home.. we get next to each other and decide to race.. i drop it into third and at hit it.. when all of a sudden i lose a bunch of power. I slow down knowing something was wrong. and i floor it and i go into where vtec ushually pulls and i do not hear the familiar loud sound! I go home park it and try again.. I took a look at my wiring to make sure nothing came loose! and visualy inspected the engine bay! i take it out again today let it warm up and try goin into vtec. It sounds like it goes into vtec but it is a very small sound when it kicks in.. and there is no power. my v-afc is telling me its getting the power to the solenoids and sensor. if it was a bad wire my v-afc would let me know. Ushually when i hit vtec it screams it and pulls like a son of a biotch! No codes come on when i start it... only after 15min, and thats becuase of oxygen sensors bad! Whats WRONG?
Ive checked the oil and thats up to par.. Ive checked and cleaned the Vtec Solenoid.. I double and triple checked my wiring! I just have no clue what its problem is!
Mine did the same thing, it even went out in third, but you said you checked all your wiring. My prob was the wire that read the rpm level. The simple way to figure out whether this is your prob would be to have the monitor read the rpm level and if it stays at zero or doesnt move all the time, you'd have my prob. Plus, the wire coulda grounded out somewhere, just not visible, like under the carpet. Mine was where it was soldered.
Have you noticed anything else that is different ? A weird sound or loss of power threw the hole power band ? I'm thinking you oil pressure might be low. I am gonna look into it more and get back to you tomorrow.
Yeah dude thats the thing! if you have low oil psi the C.E.L should throw a code! Unfortunetly i dont have my oil psi gauge connected either! The car sounds normal and runs perfect!

Alright so hey I went out and i disconnected my v-afc and put it back to normal! And va la... as soon as i start my car and give it three seconds my c.e.l comes on! I run the code and its 22... i think its vtec psi if im right! anyways its the blue and black wire on the ecu side. well the wire visualy looks good where I originally spliced into it for my controller! i double checked that and it seems to be all connected! But yeah that doesnt mean it didnt get snapped somewhere else where we cant see! How do i test what ever exactly code 22 is! im almost positive its the vtec pressure switch! unfortuently i dont have my chilton handy!
Yeah I went and soldered and shrinked all my wires back to normal! And I even tryed switching the vtec oil pressure swith with the one off my f22! I dont know what it could be... just down shifting to 3rd and all this happens!
My friend has a EG civic witha B16a2 in it..to say the least vtec started sputtering, we TOTALLY rewired the thing after ruling out the solenoid or oil PRESSURE switch....what we didnt think of was the OIL PUMP itself! It infact turned out to be the oil pump....to late to figure it out because my friend sold the motor in despiration for 1800 bucks....he also had 1000 in the head alon. His loss....
would this be true if all of a sudden i down shift and my vtec all of a sudden doesnt work! Wouldnt it of gradually went! its weird it worked perfect before!
I am out of ideas now. I was also told that if it was my pump they dont just spraticlly break.. and if it did i would hear odd noises. Like i said before this car runs perfect right now. just no vtec and i dont dare take it up to vtec rpms... i actually wont drive this car untill its fixed! I hate damages..lol
if your oil pump was bad you wouldn't get oil to the head so your valves would be clattering loud. but have you checked your oil level yet. that can be just a little low and vtec wont kick in. and worse case not to scare you but a after you have checked everything and still havn't figured it out it might be the main bearings. but you would have a loss in power all together if that was the case.it happened to a friend. we checked and tryed everything trying to figure out why the vtec wasn't working and it ended up being the main bearings. but like i said that is worst case probably not your problem.
yeah man the car runs great... no sign of loss of oil pressure (according to not having the little oil gauge light on) and it runs perfect sounds perfect... hmm I tell you! no one can figure it out! ive even called a honda dealership... they were gay and only wanted my money though! you know the phrase bring it in we will have to check it... not the oh hey try this.. yada yada!
when my buddys main bearings went out the oil light didn't come on. i would get a oil pressure gauge and see what you oil presure readings are while you are driving and when vtec is sapposed to kick in and compare it with another car. The oil light in the car isn't always the best thing to go off of.
hmm maybe i dont want to belive this... but this motor had low miles.. wouldnt i hear **** going wrong if there was a lack of pressure or odd noises from the bearings?
alright.. im coming to the assumption that somethings wrong! when i did my swap i added the vtec conroller and what not... when you swap the h22 in the accord It says that you are suppose lengthen a temp senor and run it back to the back off the motor. well i didnt do that... i just put the harness closest to it on. Its hard to explain what ive done. origianally the f22 had two temp gauges i guess you would call them.. one on the front of the motor where the top radiator hose goes and one on the bottom radiator hose on the thermostat housing.. i figured it was what told the fan when to turn on and off. So when I turn the key on my fan comes on immediatly. What i was really suppost to do what put the wires that originally go on the front to the rear and just take off the other sensor, sense the prelude h22's only have the one sensor~! Well i go to my car today put the key in the ignition so i can test for continutity just one more time on the vtec oil pressure solenoid.. the fans running on like normal.. as soon as i take of the harness that plugs into the vtec oil pressure solenoid the fan turns off! Yeah that seems like a problem to be.. but wait.... My f22 originally came with vtec.. i didnt have to add anything just mostly plug and play... and than i think well why did it work before... im so confused now! Why did it work before? than all of a sudden stop? i tell you this is going to be a headace!
ok so i went out... and jumped the vtec oil pressure and the rear thermostat plus with a wire.. i went and turned on my car and no check engine light came out. so i was thinking good i may have got it! i let the car warm up and temp up there.. and decided to gradually take er up into vtec in second.. nothing... maybe just a very slight sound difrence! but not the normal rooooar and kick! so i get out and put it back to normal... plug the two back in, in the appropreite parts! and the c.e.l light comes back on... guess what it was.. yeah 22 vtec oil pressure! I just cant figure this booger out!
