No Start/Backfires
Ok so yesterday I did some work on my H22, cooling fan stopped operating so I wired it through a toggle switch, it is wired alone, not through anything else. After I finished wiring it the car started fine, I let it idle for about 10 minutes to let it get to operating temp and to test the fan. I cut the car off and went inside for about an hour then went back out to take it for a ride. When I tried to crank it would turnover just fine the every 3-4 attempts there would be loud pop, the last one was as loud as a gun being fired next to your ear. Everything I have looked at people are saying either the distributor or it jumped timing, but could it have jumped timing when I cut it off, or attempted to start? Car ran perfectly fine before hand. Thanks in advance for any advice. This is my DD so I kind of need to get it fixed and I'm not trying to just throw parts at it.
did you mess with the firing order at all? I wouldn't think the backfiring would have anything to do with what you did with wiring the cooling fan. and I would have to also agree with you with possibly the timing or something to do with the distributor.
Never touched anything doing with timing, it ran perfectly fine after doing the fan, cut it off, went back to start it and that crap happened. lol. so confused.
yes, the timing belt could have jumped if it has over 90k and hasnt been replaced, or it was replaced and left loose. Sometimes in this business something happens coincedantly the same time as another. Check mechanical timing.
Ditto the above^^^
A backfire is a pretty good indication that there is a timing problem, either valve or ign., also agree if the timing belt is old it may well have skipped a tooth and that can happen at any time, even when turning off the ign. 94.
