Default No idea what's wrong-- check engine & no start

I have a 2000 honda civic... all stock... Never had any problems with it til last night. It wasn't starting because of the extreme cold... got a jump and was able to drive home... whenever I would slow down the engine would start to shake as if it wanted to turn off... check engine light came on... managed to make it home... went back to turn on the car again and couldnt even get the keyfob to open the doors... got inside, put key in ignition, and nothing--dead silence... spark plugs are fairly new, battery is a few years old (maybe 5?), timing belt was changed about 2 years ago... no idea what could be going on... any ideas??

If the battery light on your cluster does switch off its alternator related, if it shuts off its battery related.

Your battery is probably frozen, and the top of it gassed. Thaw the battery and check the water level, or just replace the darn thing if it shows any signs of bulging.

Age on a battery is pointless unless regular maintenance was done on it. Weather will destroy any battery. You may get 8 years out of a battery in Oklahoma, but in Minnesota, the average age for a change was 2.5-3 years while I wrenched there.
