The next ten years???
So guys I was hoping that we could start a discussion thread on what you see yourself doing in the next ten years in reguards to the honda hobby... It may seem like a long time now, but it will go quicker than we think and its getting hard to find some of these cars in decent condition as is...
In my opinion most of the newer cars are too big for me and while the internals make great swaps for some of the older chasis, it seems to me unlikely that we're going to see the newer civics, rsxs, etc doing so well in racing as we have previous models... The power to weight ratio even after a swap just is not where I'd like to see it... Also, the electronic throttle response, steering, etc. seems designed to seperate the driver from feeling the road... This may be a great thing on a luxury car, but not for a sports car....
I want more than anything to see honda/acura put out some small cars again... Something light and that can accept the current swap engines... I'd love to see remakes of the crxs, da, dc, ek, egs, etc... Wouldn't it be great to see them make remakes of these cars that can use the old parts, but also allow us all kinds of new parts... For example if honda would sell new d-series, b-series engines at reasonable costs, we could buy parts that we KNOW we can trust for years to come.. They could make each of the old cars with models for d and b series engines... They could make new shells, etc... They could definitely cut out much of the aftermarket and if priced right they could make a crapload of money... Sure it turns the industry on its head, and could eat into newer models, but done right it wouldn't matter... It would only make them work harder to come up with models that actually are better than the old cars instead of expecting us to just buy the new cars because our old 93 civic has too many old parts to take on long road trips anymore....

Within a few years from now I might be in a position to get into an NSX. Other than that, I have other interests outside of Hondas. Old cars are definitely my thing and the only reason I'd get a newer vehicle is just for a stock daily driver.
I agree with everything you stated. Also, in that time, I'm shooting for an NSX. I have heard that the 2012 Civic will return to its smaller roots, and I'm hoping for some double wishbone suspension of old. However, I'm against a remake of a Honda. As much as I love the 90's cars and feel the nostalgia, a remake like many American manufacturers are doing is a design bandaid. I believe Honda still had the capacity to design new car that raise the bar, without relying on previous designs. Look at the Civics from 88-00...they all built on a strong set of characteristics, but were different enough to be a new car with each generation.
Nonetheless, I think Honda broke an awesome formula around the early 2000s. They need to return to that family of cars without using te same designs. In my opinion, the DC5 is a great example. It's clearly an Integra, and took our favorite styling cues from the older teg while giving it something modern. I do think it's harder for them to make smaller, lighter cars with new regulations for things like traction control.
Good discussion topic. I'll stick with my older cars ;-)
