Default Newbie Help.

What do aftermarket cam gears do? I can get a pair of AEM ones really cheap $60 and I want to know if these will give me any power or not if I put them on an otherwise stock b18c1. Also, what does pr3 mean?

Adjustable cam gears are merely a tool that allows for a better tuned engine. You won't "gain" any horsepower. However, with the cam gears and some dyno time you can fine tune the stock motor to realize a few horsepower that are already in the motor. These few hp are sacrificed by the big H when building their motors in the name of reliability and longevity. Dial in those cams and you'll see the hp that the big H sacrificed. That's how I understand it anyway. Others will confirm or deny this. Happy tuning.

Cam gears let you advance and retard your cams meaning that you can make them begin to open up or close sooner or later... I really don't like AEM's, that's only because of their 3 pin design and I've seen them slip... When they slip you have that chance of piston to valve contact which ='s not good and possibly a motor rebuild... For cam sprockets I only use Skunk2, they look clean and have a 6 pin bolt pattern which I have never seen slip... As for making power on your stock GSR, maybe a little but not anything noticable... I would however get some cam sprockets and a CTR or ITR intake cam... You'll be able to tune out some power with those so sprockets come in handy... PR3 is just engine coding... Normally you'll find PR3 on anything B16 or stuff that Honda hasn't changed since the B16 first came out... You'll still find the PR3 stamp on ITR head since they are really the same head with a slight port and an upgraded valvetrain... The PR3 is a nonOBD and an OBD1 B16 VTEC ECU... There are many other codes and I'm not sure if you are familiar with them so check out this link if you want.. It goes through most all of them... http://www.hondata.com/techecuid.html Most of the stuff that you'll find on your B18C1 is P72, if you pulled your head it would say P72-A0 if you have a USDM motor P72-00 if it's JDM... here's a pics of a GSR head just like yours... Sorry about the shitty quality but the light in my dorm sucks...

EDIT: god damn I was slow, I must have taken forever to take and upload those pics, hehe oh well... Peace

Kamin knows this but it's more than just the ECU code, it covers a lot more things than that as i stated above... Just wanted to make that clear... Latez
