Default New to Honda tech - type R head question

Started out with my 03 1.8t vw, but i've recently aquired a 92 crx with a b16 vtech engine. What i'm looking at doing first is buying another head, porting, polishing with cams, vales, valve springs, retainsers ect.

My question would be is a type R head worth investing into or just a typical b16 dohc head, are the R's different in any way? Second would you guys recomend going with the type r's cams, vales, retainers ect... or a different after-market type? happen to have a url ?

any other mod ideas would be cool, thanks guys

Goals with this car first off is just building the head for the block. And eventually throwing it onto a b20 block with a turbo setup.

New to Hondas I see.. Honda didnt make a crx in 92'..

A type-r head is basically a B16 head with different valve train and different cams, it also has a mild port/polish from the factory.. I would say just get some headwork done to your B16 head.. CTR/ITR cams give great results and are much stronger and more exact than aftermarket cams are, I know some people will disagree with me but who better to design stuff for your motor than the people that created and built it..

Alot of people say to go with type-r valvetrain because of the price.. I picked up type-r valvesprings(inner and outer), retainers, and seats for $100.. I also went with Portflow inner valvesprings since they are even stronger than type-r's and are only $80 for the set..

And its vtec not vtech..

Since Honda heads are very high flowing heads from the start I would just get the type-r valvetrain and cams and work on building the bottom end of the engine..

With Honda engines your going to see that the bottom end(rods, pistons) are going to be the weak link in your turbo setup long before the head will be..

then I guess it's a 91 or 90. Just what i've been told, it was cheap from a buddy who's moving away so what the heck..... Yeah I was assumg rods n pistons would be very weak on a stock n/a engine. Something I'll dig into later when the time comes
