New here will this work?
I am trying to buy an import and I found a car that I really like but it is a N/A motor with 12.5 :1 pistons. I have been told that I can not run pump gas that I must run race fuel for this motor. I was wondering if this would be a possible soultion to my problem.
Here are the specs on the motor.
It is an LS block
It has a Haltech E6k
JDM B16A Head Polished By Jun
Type R valves
JUN stage 3 cams
JUN Titanium Retainers
JUN high rev package springs 9.5k
68 MM holley throttle body
Skunk 2 intake manifold
RC 305 Injectors
AEM fuel rail, regulator, cam gears
JE 12.5:1 pistons
Crower Rods
Block blueprinted and balanced.
That is what is bascially in the motor. Now my question is could I purchase this car and put low compression pistons in it and then throw a turbo kit on it. Or becuase it has the B16 head would that not be good. Like I said I am new to imports grew up working on german and amercian cars. So I am not sure if this would work. Any help would be great.
TIA

if you dont want to spend any money you can always back your timing down and with that compression you shouldnt have any trouble detonating when your timing is < 12 or so degrees.
Wouldn't that be able to get by with premium gas? That seems like a fairly mild motor compared to others i have read about.
Also what crank is it? the LS?

In addition to changing pistons/rings - you will have to re-hone the block - which means full tear down ($$$).
The Jun III cams won't work with a turbo either - too much duration. Type R cams would work ok. ($$$)
The injectors will have to be upgraded too.....and you will have to get the ECU reprogrammed and dyno tuned ($$$)
You will also think about running an intercooler for your turbo and the associated plumbing/electronics ($$$)
FWIW - don't buy this car.

yes, it can be run on pump gas, i've heard of people on this board running 13:1 on pump gas, you have to tunned it VERY good, i would buy it and stay with it just how it is, i like NA engines, and you will learn a lot of stuff, and maybe if you get tirred of it sell it and buy a car for going BOOST, but i would like a NA better than a turbo, intercoolers look good, but if you race against a turbo and beat him it would be cooler than if you have boost, and if you loose, it'll be ok, cuz he has boost.
When you start a project you have to have very clear which way you want to go turbo or NA, i like NA just cuz you don't deal with a lot of extra parts like the turbo (manifold, turbo, intercooler, piping, blow off valve, etc....) you just need a good ECU and be sure that the cooling system can take it.
Good luck
