Default ///Need a transmission wizard here!!///

My problem:

my jdm itr transmission went afoul at the track a couple of weeks ago. it would not shift into 4th gear. there was no grinding....nothing, like a brick wall! two passes and it did the same thing both times. on the third pass it went to second. it jolted and i got out of it instantly. when i got back to the pits i was reversing into my spot and reverse was all spongy. it also was hard to get out of reverse. i limped it back home (also toasted the inner joint on the drivers side axle in the burnout box on the last run....damn aftermarket axles!) also noticed it will sometimes grind going into fifth gear. under normal driving conditions it seems good. never had a 3rd gear grind.

Now:
-Anybody have any ideas before i tear it down?

-I am a tech at a Honda dealership, what manual can i use for the inspection? itr,gsr,99-00 civic si?

-Are all b-series transmission clearances the same? Just different gears?

I am open to any advise or theories from people who know what they are talking about.

My hypothesis is a bent mainshaft shift fork but.....who knows

thanks, Mike

I think you have the right idea with the problem with your fork. You could probably use either an ITR or GS-R manual, I looked on Alldata and it had specs for both GS-R and Type R together. The clearances are not the same.

Did it ever want to pull out of 5th? From what you said, it sounds a lot like a prob a buddy of mine recently had with his and it was a bent fork

I would bet on a 3-4 synchro set and 5-R synchro set with maybe 4th and 5th gears need to be replaced. The forks are probably fine.

There is no way to tell untill you take it apart and inspect everything piece by piece. Untill then its just a guessing game. It does sound like the 3/4 and 5/R sychro hub and sleeve or a shift fork though.
