Default Need to be sure I'm doing this right-NEED HELP ASAP

I searched before attempting to change the fuel filter on my b16 (go ahead laugh at me) and figured I was good to go.I've changed many a fuel filter before,so I don't know what I'm doing wrong.I saw a few vids on YouTube w people changing d series filters, which seem pretty much the same as what I'm working with, but the two fuel line inputs are on top and bottom, where as mine are both on top.

This is where I'm at,I got the one bolt with the hole in the bottom/copper washers disconnected no problem, but getting the other one off is proving to be more difficult.I've literally ripped the wrench off this bolt a couple times, and it's starting to strip. It sortve looks like the bolt is fixed to the threads, and the whole thing has to loosen, threads and bolt.Because on my replacement fuel filter, that's what screws into it,those threads.

Hopefully someone whose replaced this style filter can chime in,I tried putting the other bolt back in to just run the old filter til I figure out what I'm doing, and it seems that me wrenching on the other inlet so hard sortve bent something inside the filter, now it doesn't go back in (on the old filter). So basically I have to replace this tomorrow or I'm hit.

I'm going to disconnect the banjo bolt fully, then take the filter out of its housing(while still connected to the fuel input line) then just turn the whole filter around the line, and hopefully unscrew it.

Can you get a picture of it so we can know what you're dealing with?
It would help us help you so much better and faster...

So your saying the fuel filters are different?

Both fittings on top.
One fitting on top the other on bottom.

If so, first thing to do is get the correct fuel filter.

Next it sounds like the banjo fitting came off alright but the "flair fitting" is tight, maybe seized, so a little penetrating oil like Move It and a proper flair/fuel line wrench to remove it. 94

I took a quick look, and for a 1994 Civic, I saw the fuel line picture Honda Automotive Parts and that shows both ports on the top of the filter with parts 28-33 being the banjo bolt with sealing washers being parts 33 & 34, and with the other inlet (from fuel feed pipe part 14) being the flared inlet that fcm is mentioning. He is right in that you need to make sure to use a flared nut wrench for that as it will grip more sides than a standard wrench and you really don't want to strip it, and using some penetrating oil like he is suggesting also makes sense. As far as the sealing washers (parts 33 & 34 for the banjo bolt) - hopefully new ones came with the filter and I believe that you'll need to torque them to a certain value which should be in the shop manual. I've heard of copper sealing washers being reused by annealing them to a certain temp, but hopefully you have new ones.

Is the filter base actually screw in (where you can unscrew it and put a new filter cartridge inside) or is it one piece?? On my car (2000 Civic), the fuel filter is one piece. Good luck!!! - Jim
