Default Need some help with and electrical problem...

See, I got this 88' Civic DX HB and its all fine n' dandy, but when i bought the car I failed to realize that the cooling fan never turned on. I've done some diagnostic work (checking switches, relays, and wiring) but to this day, i still can't figure it out...I've changed the thermo fan switch and the temp. sending unit...and still nothing...the engine does get hot, thats why i don't drive it now...the only plug on the fan is the one that comes from the relay switch next to the air filter which makes the connection...

if anyone knows or has any info that can help me, please reply...thx

the fan works...it may be the temp gauge itself...but would the temp gauge effect the fan?

Temperature guage has no affect on the fan whatsoever. The fan does affect the guage though,as you can attest.

Let's see.. You checked the wiring??. Hmm. How so?.. You tested the relay?.. I didn't know you could.. You must've meant that you tested it indirectly.. Now back to the wires. Did you check to see if you're getting voltage before the load? How a ground?.. I'm assuming the switch grounds and turns on the coil to relay for the fan to turn on. If that's so, check the switch. It should have zero resistance. If anything other than that, it's defective. A switch is like a wire, there's no resistance.. Don't forget to also clean the contact points. Now onto the relay. To test it.. Hmm.. From what I remember.. It sends power to the fan. If that's so, rewire the thermo fan sensor into a switch and leave it turned on. Now check to see if there's power coming to the relay. If there's no power. You know that your problem is between the relay and the thermo fan sensor. But if you do have power, the problem is in between the relay and the fan itself. So my best guess would be it's the wiring. Because if you tested the fan and it works, check the wires coming from the relay.. Hope this helps a little.. I have to see it in person to do a thorough diagnosis.. Later
