i have a 99 civic si and here is a list of current mods

DC 4-2-1 headers
Arospeed exhaust
short shifter
AEM Cold air intake
Wings West styling wing
JCW Racing rims
Eibach pro kit lowered

i dont have a lot of money but i have a lot of time and i am looking for the next thing to do on this car. I think it is running lean because between 2000 and 3000 RPMs it stutters and then takes off a few times but after 3000 its fine. What would fix this? also, any ideas on cheap ways to make this car either run or look better would be great. thanks.

 

What are "Racing rims"???

Your car is basically stock, I seriously doubt its running lean. When was the last time you did basic maintance to it? (plugs,wires,cap rotor, timing belt) Start there first

The cheapest way to make it faster is nitrous

The cheapest way to make it look better is to take off the body kit

If you have alot of time then pick up a second job (hopefully its your second)and put a turbo on it if you really want to go faster

 

it doesnt have a body kit and i bought it off some guy that thought he knew what he was doing but everything he "fixed" was put together bad or didnt even work. i wont do nitrous without a semi built engine and i did a valve adjustment, replaced plugs,wires,cap rotor, timing belt and some others about two weeks ago. I do all maintainence right on schedule. and JCW Racing rims mean JCW Racing is the manufaturer

 

why not? nitrous is not going to hurt anything if properly installed and tuned correctly ( and you dont go over board with it)...meaning you hook a wideband up to it and do a few pulls to make sure the correct pills are installed and your afr's are correct. for under $500 you can knock a full second off your times.....
...if your still uncomfortable with it, then buy a hondata and have the car tuned. You'll pick up more power with either of those 2 mods then you will with any other "bolt-on"

 

security system (lojack)...your car cant look good/run good if its stolen.

 

got lojack and a python system. where is the best place to get a hondata system from

 

check your timing belt job with a timing light and adjust to OEM spec.



and buy some security.

 

hondata is overpriced, especially for a NA build. for how mild your build is just get a ecu with a custom basemap from phearable.com . if it seems like your car is running lean (for a build that mild that seems a bit odd) upgrade your injectors to ike 330 or 440 or something and include that info when you talk to phearable abut the basemap. im assuming your car has the b16a2, if u want the most bang for your buck get an LS or b20 bottom end and slap your b16's head on it(makes it a ls/b20 vtec). gives you the advantage of the larger displacement ( 1834 LS or 1973 B20 vs your 1595cc for the b16) as well as the increased airflow of the vtec head. you can pick up a good quality LS or b20 block for 800 tops.

 

so i have been looking into other options and here is what i have come up with:

Valve upgrade will be a type r cam
forged pistons or possible type r
have it resleeved
venow intake manifold
65mm throttle body
bigger injectors (not sure what size)
fuel pressure regulator
turbo ( not sure which one yet)
a few other things i cant remember

possible LS/VTEC with a B20/B16

does this sound like decent compatability? I will also have chipwork and tuning done. uupgrade brakes and so on.
