Default need quick help on rebuilding a bottom end

so yesterday I pulled my b16 out my integra and took my head off and put it on a virgin b18c type r virgin short block. everything seemed good on the bottom end. still had fresh cross hatching or whatever you call it on the cylinder walls. piston tops looked good not too much build up or anything. didnt pull the pan but drained the oil, it was black but no shavings and not burnt or anything. rear seal looked pretty much brand new.

so I put a lightened flywhweel, stage 2 clutch. felpro head gasket, b16 head, flat faced valves, duel springs and retainers, blox c cams.

started it up thing has a knock coming from the front of the engine. doesnt seem like a rod knock but im not sure. has power but I havnt rev'd it over 4k. ive driven it around the block sound has not increased runs fine idles perfect.

the problem is not in the head it is in the bottom end.

is I was to pull the bottom end apart and have new rod and crank bearings put in and put a oem oil pump in how much am I looking at spending? ill pick up a oil pump from the dealer but anyone have a clue what the type r pumps run and how much am I looking at for bearings and labor at a machine shop?

Why don't you just install the bearings yourself if you're going to pull it apart anyway. Its pretty simple.

never done it, im all down for learning but im in a time pinch and cant afford to be with out this bottom end right now.

I dont know what bearings I need. all I need to replace are thte rod and crank right, but if it has spun a bearing I have to take it to a shop anyways, so I might as well just take it to a shop to begin with. i can get a oil pump for 80 my cost. there are nothing wrong with the pistons or rings so is there any reason they need to be replaced? can I just do the bottom end bearings?

that should be fine, assuming there's nothing wrong with the pistons or rings. Bearing install is probably the easiest part of the rebuild, but if you think you have a spun bearing, you should just take it to a shop so they can check it out.

thats the problem, done know if its a spun bearing, worn thrust washer or spacer as someone mentioned or bad oil pump. when I drained the oil there were no shavings, there is oil getting to the head, and the noise doesnt seem to be increasing. but im not gonna go and try and throw a rod either. I have a spare running b16 sitting in my garage I can put in until I get the bottom eng fixed I just done have the cash to get it fixed yet. anyone want some real 98 itr cams?

I put the flywheel on with a impact and used arp flywheel bolts and the knocking noise is coming from the front of the engine. I took the valve cover off and cranked the engine over and there is oil getting to the head so idk what it could be, opssible my belt tensioner bearing could be going out making a knocking noise?

been driving the car and noise has not gotten louder, still has power. noise does not increase with rpm can only hear it at idle to 2k rpm. took the valve cover off and cranked the motor theres def oil getting to the head. whaat else could it be? I took my alt and ac belts off and started the motor and noise was still there and it is def coming from the bottom end from the front of the engine

took the pan off, found no shavings in pan, no rod caps moved other than side to side as normal. thrush (sp) bearings were worn pretty bad so i was told to try using 20-50 oil in it. did and it quieted it down pretty good im gonna get a acl bearing kit and new oil pump and slap them in there and see how that goes

Can you change the knock or eliminate the knock by removing spark plug wires one at a time. By this I mean if you have a rod knock on one cyl you can significantly change the intensity of the knock easiest by removing the spark plug wire to that cylinder. Since it RPM/load based noise I would tend to think it is not mains which hardly ever wear anyway. Either way a fresh set of bearings/washers/ and oil pump will make almost any motor knock free. I would re ring it too for good measure.

pulling the plugs makes no difference in the noise, and the knock can only be heard at idle, the knock does not increase with rpm
