depends on what needs to be done.
I spent $1000 on my bottom end including assembly
I then spend $400 on the head to get that redone too.
plus I got new headgasket, hoses, waterpump, timing belt, valvecover gasket, etc...

if the crank is damaged you might as well get t a new one...and thoroughly clean everything to make sure you don't have shavings clogged anywhere. it really depends on how bad the damage is. A swap might actually be cheaper.
did everything had to be absolutely OEM > have you pass CA/BAR smog yet >
worried that with all the engine work that it may create CA smog issues
