Default Need help on which tranny to use

well ive searched around and i know an ex/si tranny is the best out of every other tranny for the d series motor. but the one i got with the motor there is a huge hole in it. and i have a 94 cx tranny i could use or a 97 cx tranny i could use. which would be the best one to use??
94 cx? or 97 cx??
or is the ex/si tranny fixable??

Hey man,
Okay I'm not 100% sure on your year car, but I've got a 91 civic hatch and I used a DX case to switch out for my Si case that had a huge hole in it due to me exploding my differential. You're, to my knowledge, able to do the same thing with your car. I just took apart my tranny, and swapped all the guts to the other case and re-sealed it with Hondabond and I also replaced the 4 gaskets in my tranny which was like 30 bux, so I figured why not. Trannies really aren't that hard to work with if you've got some mechanical experience (which it sounds like you do) and a haynes/chilton/helms repair manual. So I'd look into just swapping the case and keep those shorter gears... you'll be happier. And if you've got the cash buy a Quaife LSD and throw that in there, I did that in mine and it's awesome. Good luck!

Nice pic man... didn't see that the first time, so since it's that half of the case you can just pull that off and put on the other one and it should work fine. I would check with others first, just to be sure, but I did that same thing and have had no problems. You won't need to swap gears or anything since they're all stuck to the bell housing side (the part that attaches to the block).

yah the guy said i should be able to swap out the internals of the tranny and put it into my cx tranny w/o any problems but my friend said its hard but im not sure who to believe. cause i know its hard to come by with ex/si tranny and the internals in the tranny are still good. so its possible right w/o being so hard?
its a z6 motor and trying to make the ex/si tranny work.

if i were you, I'd put the ex guts in the cx case.

if you have a 92-95 ex trans, use the 94 cx case.

if you have a 96-00 ex trans, use the 96-00 cx case.

the 97 cx is much better gearing than the 92-95 cx.

the 96-00 cx trans has the same 1-5 as a dx trans, but a 3.7222 final drive.

if you chose to swap the gears into the cx case, pm me and i'll give you more details.

figuring out a way to repair the hole in the casing is going to take more time than a simple case swap.
