Default Need help with starter!

Well my starter went out a couple days ago and left me stranded in charlotte...and hour and a half away from home. I couldnt roll it by myself so i just got my girl to bring me back here to get tools and a new starter. I bought a used one from a friend of mine that owns a shop...went back down there and had it on in 30 minutes. Go to start it and the starter makes this crazy *** clicking npise...almost like theres gears in there that are stripped or something. So i go back to dirty HP and talk to the guy that owns the shop...and he said that it was all these different things like plugs and wires, or a bad battery and all this bullshit. I told him that even if the plugs and wires werent on the car it would still try to turn over...and that it was a brand new battery. I just wanted my damn money back so i could go get a new one...but he just didnt wanna give it to me...even though im good friends with his son and ive known them for years. So he finally tell me to go back down there JUST to check the cables cuz its prolly bad cables and its not getting any power. But in order for it to click and go crazy...it has to be getting power right?

Anyway...what else could it be? Ive checked everything in there and it seems like the only thing it could be is the starter. Im really starting to get annoyed at the whole situation...my car is an hour and a half away and some dude just got through talking to me like im a kid and dont know **** about cars for over an hour. I know more about hondas than anyone at that shop damn it. Now only if i had a multimeter and some other **** id go down there and test everything out...but unfortunately i dont.

BTW-Its a 90 crx with a b18a with bolt ons. I need help fast...damn i miss my car.

you know how much cca(cold cranking amps) it takes to start a car? could still be weak battery, and double check your grounds.

Ive checked everything in there...</TD></TR></TABLE>Did you measure voltage drop across all the big cables (including grounds) WHILE you tried to crank?

Corrosion or a loose connection can produce enough drop so the starter solenoid pulls in, but as soon as the starter motor tries to draw 100 amps the voltage loss causes the solenoid to drop back out. That's the clicking/chattering noise.

Saying you know more about Hondas than they do, doesn't mean much if you can't back it up with measurements.
